David Březina—multilingual typography & typeface design

Codan—typeface inspired by the city of Copenhagen

Introduction

Codan is a linear, sans serif, display typeface intended for magazines and posters. It has been designed during my studies at Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen. Since then, Codan has been completely revised. At the moment, it exists as an beta-version caps-only OpenType font with almost complete set of western and central-European Latin character set enriched by a few discretionary ligatures.

Please notice that Codan is not generally for free, but you can get it with a charity magazine Building letters 3. The typeface is not going to be released any time soon. You can read a report about the design process.

Acknowledgements

Thanks belong to Ulla Heegaard for her introductory guidance, Magnus Gaarde for his comments on the Typophile thread about Codan, Tomáš Brousil for his design advices and to Filip Blažek for his help with diacritics.
